TUESDAY 14TH JUNE 2005  HOMEOWNERS POSITIVE ABOUT UK MARKET Research from Yorkshire Bank has found that 54% of people have stopped worrying about a crash and are now confident that the price of their home will go up over the next year. Percentage of buyers predicting Although the market has cooled markedly in the past year the bank has found that many homeowners thought the UK feel their property will increase in value, with those in Wales most optimistic about future market trends. Significantly, 8% more feel positive now than in the bank's last survey in January, when people were still suffering the after-shock of several interest rates rises, and fears of a crash were ominously high. Wales topped the optimism league with 63% of respondents thinking prices would rise, followed by the north-west of England (58%) and London (57%). The East Midlands are least confident but even here 47% believed that prices would increase. "The market crash many predicted is failing to materialise, even though house prices are not rising at the rate they were last year, said Gary Lumby, head of retail at Yorkshire Bank. "The longer interest rates remain static, the more likely it is confidence will continue to build and the market remain healthy."
